    We wouldn't find HD in a Dutch family (re-)naming registers because those registers where dated 1812 and 1826, while HD † in 1807.

    The Neder-Duits Gereformeerde Church later became the Nederlands Hervormde Gemeente or Church.

    Aelberdina (later also written as Alberdina) was the daughter of Andries Reijs, born Allendorp, Oberhausen, Hessen, Germany abt. 1729; x) Brummen 1 August 1754. and Geertrui Borgers, born Brummen 1733; † 21 July 1792. Aelberdina had two brothers: Johan (born 20 October 1754) and Jacobus (born 5 November 1760). Before she married Heinrich Daniel she already had a daughter Anna Maria Reis, *) Brummen 3 February 1789 and baptized on 8 February 1789. Heinrich Daniel was present as a witness. In a footnote in the Baptizing Register of Brummen it is noted that she was an illegitimate child. That means that she could be a child of Aelberdina and Hendrik Redeken, born within 300 days after his death. It also could be Heinrich's before they where married.

    After the death of Heinrich Daniel she re-married for the 3rd time on 24 June 1810 now to Willem Rensink, born Warnsveld around 1772. She lives in Laag Soeren, province of Gelderland, NL then, saying she is only 40 years old, which is not true. Willem Rensink was the widower of Johanna Hagman, age 38 years. He died in 1812.

    When her son, Caesar Christoph was born in 1818, she stated to the mayor that she could not read nor write. She was living in Leuvenheim, Gelderland, The Netherlands then and gave her profession as laborer. She died at the age of 62. The notice of death was done by her son, who was living in Leuvenheim. as day laborer.

    *) Spankeren, city of Brummen, NL Wednesday 25 May 1796 ; bapt. Nederlands-Hervormd, Sunday 29 May 1796. † Brummen 12 October 1861, at home in the age of 65 year and 140 days. He was a widower and without a profession, as stated in the registration of his death to the mayor of the village by the town constable and Gerrit van Hesfelink, taylor. x1) Brummen 4 June 1818 Gardina Berendsen (24), born Steenderen 2 January 1794. † Brummen 27 June 1848. Daughter of Harmen Berendsen and Jenneken Aalderkamps). In the notification of her death her father is now called Gerrit in stead of Harmen Berendsen, he's a day laborer. Caesar Christoph profession was also day laborer. In the marriage register the family name 'Leether' was used.
    x2) Brummen 1 June 1850, at the age of 53 in front of mayor Laurens Hofman to Gerritje Ligtenbeld (30), born 31 December 1819. † Arnhem Wednesday 10 July 1912, age 92 years and 191 days. (When she married she was pregnant but if he is the father is unknown, but he recognizes the child Theodorus as his). Gerritje is the daughter of Jan Ligtenbeld Sr. (born Brummen 19 May 1783; x) 11 September 1814; † 6 September 1864 and Maria van Apeldoorn (born Heerde 24 February 1785. † Brummen 25 November 1859). Gerritje re-marries Engelbert de Graaf.

    According to a certificate of 30 June 1818 by the Governor of the province of Gelderland, Caesar is freed of the National Militia as the only and supporting son of his mother, widow of Heinrich Daniel. Length 5 voet 3 duim and 3 streek (old Dutch measurements). His face is blushing, the forehead high, eyes blue, nose common, mouth common, hair and eyebrow blond, chin round, pockmarked. He signs as C.C. Leether.

    When he registered his 1st child he's called Caesar Christoph. With the 2nd child, he is Cesar Christoffel. Caesar was *) and baptized as a Leether, he x) as one, signed the militia papers as such, x) with that name, and then reported all his children as the children of C.C. Lether. Between his marriage in 1818 and the registration of his first child in 1819 he changed his name to Lether. Strangely enough we do have two death certificates of him, one mentioned as a 'Leether' and the 2nd one as 'Lether'.

    Witnesess of the marriage to Gardina Berendsen are: Willem Asfenbeek (32), Jan Ligtenbeld (35), Derk Stokkers (42), Martien Jonkers (34), John Derk Bokkert (32).

    Witnesess of the 2nd marriage are: Christiaan Ligtenbeld (28) day laborer, Aalbert Meijer (54), Jacob Bosman (27) day laborer.

    Gerritje's mother was Maria van Apeldoorn, born Heerde 24 February 1785. x) 11 September 1814; † Brummen 25 November 1859). Maria was a daughter of Jacobus van Apeldoorn, born Heerde 20 March 1750. x) 22 September 1777 and Gerjen (or Gergjen) Floors, bapt. 14 November 1752. Her parents were Teunis Floor and Geertje Gerrets. Jacobus was a son of Arend van Apeldoorn, bapt. Heerde 17 February 1725. x) 14 February 1749 and Derkjen Boels, bapt. Heerde 14 April 1721). Arend's parents are Lammert Andries van Apeldoorn, x) 18 January 1716 and Geertje Willems Meijering (name hard to read), born Beekbergen. The parents of Derkjen Boels were: Jacobus Boels, baptized Heerde 13 March 1690. x) 2 October 1718) and Willemtjen Fops, born abt. Heerde 1697.

    Gerritje's father was Jan Ligtenbeld, born Brummen 19 May 1783; bapt. 11 September 1814. † Brummen 6 September 1864. His parents were Christiaan Ligtenbeld, born abt. Brummen 1745; x) 27 November 1779. † Brummen 16 September 1823 and Hendrika Pennekamp, (bapt. Steenderen 2 November 1749). Christiaan's parents were Jan Ligtenbeld, x) 28 July 1743 and Gerendje Peters, bapt. 31 August 1710. The parents of Hendrika were Peter Pennekamp, born abt. Toldijk, NL 1702; x) 1727 and Aaltjen Willems, born abt. Steenderen 1706. Marries at the age of 21 in brummen on 16 March 1861 to Johanna Willemina Arendina Bosman (21), born 28 September 1839, daughter of Jan Bosman (48) brick layer help and Johanna Drost.

Jan worked in Brummen as a laborer, later as a journeyman and bricklayer.

The certificate of birth was dated 18 July by his father Caesar Christoffel (29), his mother was 24. He was a day laborer. They lived many years in Ede. His widow re-marries Apeldoorn 2 March 1878 to Jan Flaschwinkel, born Apeldoorn July 1820. † Apeldoorn 5 March 1882.

    VIg CESAR CHRISTOFFEL Lether
    *) Brummen, NL Wednesday 24 September 1834 8 a.m. † Westervoort, Monday 23 October 1922, age 88 years and 29 days. *) (37) Westervoort 20 January 1872 to Johanna Reijers, a maid-servant born Arnhem 25 December 1842. † Westervoort 16 December 1916, (daughter of Hendrik Reyers and Catharina Aleida Dibbets). When he registered his son Willem at city hall he stated that he was a laborer by profession. He was a farm hand when he marries.

    Cesar's father was 38 and still lived in Leuvenheim. With the registration at city hall he was accompanied for mayor Laurens Hoffman by two witnesses: Hendrikus van Dommelen, taylor and Antoine Jacobes Pelgrim, baker.


    VIh THEODORUS Lether
    *) Brummen, NL Wednesday 18 April 1850 at 6.30 a.m. † Zutphen 28 December 1939. x) (24) Brummen 30 January 1875 to Gerritjen Kets (28), born Hummelo and Keppel 17 August 1846. † Brummen 9 May 1928. She lived in Doesburg and was a maid servant.
    He was born before the marriage of his mother Gerritje Ligtenbeld, the 2nd wife of Caesar Christoph in the house of her parents. Notification of birth by Karolina Henriette Hubbers (24 years), midwife. With this marriage he was recognized as a child of Caesar C. although it is not known if Caesar was the father. Theodorus was a bricklayer and later post man. They lived in the Peppelstreet 13.
    For unknown reasons this part of the family continues as 'Leether'.

    They marry for civil servant and member of the city council Jacobus Drekman. Witnesess are: Christiaan Ligtenbeld (51) (it's stated that he is the uncle of Theodorus, I wonder if he's family of Theodorus mother in law Hendrika?), Johannes Donkers (39) foreman, Willem Wesfeling or Heffeling (37) day laborer and Derk ter Maat (56) linnen wever. Theodorus is listed in 1869 for the draft of 1870 under # 9, but doesn't have to serve since he had 4 brothers in service. The CO of the 8th Regiment Infantery gives him marriage permission on 5 December 1874. This regiment seems to be very populair with the Lethers. We have other family members who served in this regiment.

Johan left from Rotterdam to the United States 18 January 1920 where he arrived by the S.S. Rotterdam in New York on 28 January 1920. In 1920 he moved to Salt Lake City. He followed his two oldest children who already were in the USA. In the Netherlands Johan was a postman.

The act of birth was made up one day after the birth of F.A.K. by Pieter Hendrikus Gerritszoon, alderman of the city of Brummen. Witnesses were Aalt Boerman (49), day laborer and Hendrikus Lambertuszoon Veluwen (38), city constable.
    He won the 1st prize (a vest pocket watch with inscription) sharpshooter competition April 1884. 1st Chevron 1879; Bronze Medal 1885; 2nd Chevron 1891; Silver Medal of Honor of Oranje Nassau 1921. Horn blower 1872-1873, promoted to corporal horn blower 1873-1892 with the 8th Infantry Regiment. On June 1, 1892 as retired corporal appointed as permanent servant at the office of the Chief Intendant in The Hague.

It is said that Martinus marries beneath his social level with Geertruida who was 15 years younger and worked as a servant maid. He was Dutch Reformed. He was an agriculture worker in the city of Duiven and later became even gentleman-farmer. His family bought a farm for him in Ooij, NL.

    *) Brummen/Leuvenheim, NL 23 March 1855 at 11 a.m. † Ede (Landbouwlane 4 and 15) 20 January 1931; buried Ede 24 January 1931 at the age of 74 years. x) Rheden 9 August 1879 to H.(Juda) Gargorski, born Rheden 19 January 1860. † Ede 30 May 1944 age 84 years; buried 3 June 1944 General Cemetery Ede, (daughter of Hendrik Gargorski and Lubberdina Wenting).
    On 10 May 1875 he joined the army for his number with the 8th Regiment Infantry. He lived in Apeldoorn than. On 31 May 1876 his tour is finished, but he went back for additional service in the periode 7 August till 18 September 1878 with the same regiment and ended his militairy service effective 9 May 1880 (service number 66.651). After his militairy service he worked as rail road official. He is administratively moved to Renkum on 18 August 1879 and lives for a while in Angerlo. He moved from Apeldoorn on 13 February 1878 to Rheden.

John was a union member in the International Brother hood of Hod Carriers, local 113.

    He worked for the N.V. Pletterijen former L.I. Enthoven and Cie. (a company where turnouts for tram and railways are made). First in The Hague and later in Delft. F.A.K. was originally hired for a period of 6 month. He stayed there for 40 years. He was a model maker (in city registration his occupation as carpenter was mentioned) for the production of tram- \and rail road points and crossings. He also had an important part in the development and production of screw gas tanks (holders) in the Netherlands. The Pletterij also specialized in steel skeleton building, bridges (for the Government), gas- and oil tanks). The rumor goes that famous painter Vincentvan Gogh had something to do with this company. At home F.A.K. had a large collection of self made wrought iron pieces like hanging and standing lamps, baskets, candle holders, ash trays, reading matter baskets etc. His biggest hobby however was the opera. He lived in the Stuyvesantstreet 191 in The Hague. He was a typical real old fashioned Lether. A hard worker, with a particular charm, uncomfortable to sexuality, pre-posessed and not realy an educator to his children. He didn't really fit to his wife, one of his children said.

In his twentieth year he moved to Dutch East Indies. Mies followed later, but before then they married with the glove, a proxy ceremony where he was in Dutch East Indies and she in the Netherlands. Hermina was the sister of van Fenneke who married VIIIh.

He worked as an apprentice at the retailstore De Bijenkorf (see picture) and later as scenery designer at the Haagsch Modehuis (fashion house). He designs advertisings, created shop windows and even public relations for this company, who had -under different names- other subsidiaries in the country. After WW II he started his own advertising agency. In 1960 he moved his family from the Stuyvesantstreet to the Regentesselane.

    At the age of 29 year (1950) he moved to the fatherland of his father. What he did there for 7 years that he stayed is unknown.
